Oil down, dollar up as al-Zarqawi dies

Topics: Iraq

Government troops located the dead body of Abu Musaab Al-Zarqawi, two women and five of his males aides in a house used as a hideout after it was struck in an air strike.

news.jpegIn juxtaposition with the death of the world's most brutal murderer, Abu Al-Zarqawi, comes a drop in oil prices and the rise of the dollar:

US crude oil fell $1.21 to $69.71 a barrel by 0818 GMT after losing $1.68 or 2% on Wednesday. London Brent crude fell $1.10 to $68.09 a barrel.

At the same time as oil prices fell, the US dollar rose, currency dealers said.

"Clearly, this news added to the momentum of the dollar, which was already on an upturn on the improved outlook for US interest rates," said Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi UFJ forex analyst Masashi Hashimoto.

And along with this news comes a perspective on Zarqawi's death from The Egyptian Sandmonkey in Cairo, who says it's time to get the bubbley out! This calls for a celebration!

But his best perspective comes on the reaction from the American Left - as displayed by the Daily Kos:

On the lefty hater side, we have the DailyKos people, who were quick- as usual- to be negative over the whole thing . Whatever. American readers, did you know that the word "Kos" in arabic means literally "Pussy"? Quite fitting, don't you think?
A "colorfull" description, but appropriate!

As to how Zarqawi was found out, an Iraqi presidential spokesman has denied reports that the air strike that took the life of the Islamothug-in-chief was carried out as a result of a tip-off provided by the Jordanian intelligence. ... "The information about his whereabouts were provided by natives of the region where he was hiding along with his aides, the spokesman said."
