Occupied Byzantium: Denigrating Dervishes Dance on Image of Christ, and the World Yawns

The dervishes are dancing on Jesus Christ's body in the advertisement, and their clothes resemble those of the Turkish Mavlav Order. The activity of the dervish orders has been prohibited in Turkey since 1925 and only the zikr-dance of the dervishes has preserved as a part of national culture.
It may be a story that's almost a month old, but that just makes the point all the more. Russian and western media have completely ignored how the Turkish Tourism Board is airing an advertisement where Muslim dervishes dance on an image of Christ taken from a destroyed church.

So far, the offending advertisement has been seen on St. Petersburg's Channel 22, Rambler NBN, and was most likely shown elsewhere in Russia and the world, but the Turks who paid for the advertisement still cannot be reached. The reaction to the offending advertisement in St. Petersburg, more specifically the lack of one, should also serve as a reminder that Islam's success in conquest was primarily due to the passivity of the targeted population, and to a lack of will to fend off the invaders.

Earlier this month Marina Grigoryan said on The Voice of America that such provocative video clips can hardly be considered just a commercial subterfuge. Too little time has elapsed since a scandal caused by Danish caricatures depicting the Prophet Muhammad, so one is inclined to believe in obvious premeditation of the step undertaken by Turks to artificially foment interreligious passions.
