'Darth' Coulter - 'Dark Lady of the Sith'" ?
Topics: Humor
Liberals are outraged at Ann Coulter! Of course, that shouldn't come as a surprise, it's not the first time Coulter has made what is considered in our society's "politically correct" mind-set, "outrageous" comments, as when she said of Muslims in her syndicated column of September 12th in response to the terrorist attacks of 9/11, that "we should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity."
At the time, the comments outraged many, though conservatives, including Richard Lowry - editor of the "National Review", cut Coulter some slack by attributing her harsh words to the grief of her having lost a friend in the attacks.
However, in the following week Coulter went on to say that Congress could pass a law tomorrow requiring that all aliens from Arabic countries leave and that we should require passports to fly domestically (and qualifying her statement with "Passports can be forged, but they can also be checked with the home country in case of any suspicious-looking swarthy males"), Lowry spiked her column. Coulter in-turn, responded by calling Lowry and his editorial staff "...censorious 'girly boys.' " Arnold Schwarzenegger, though critical of Ann's comments, thought the "appellation" was brilliant!
So, one has to wonder what is new about Ann's "trademark" remarks in her new book that has stirred such a hornet's nest, so inflamed Liberals everywhere, made them so rabidly indignant, and even warranted the intervention of non-other than "Her Venerable Coldness" (she reminds me of the White Witch in the movie Narnia in her castle made of ice!) Senator Hillary Clinton, who has publicly taken umbrage to Coulter's remarks in the book stating: " Perhaps her book should have been called 'Heartless.'" Imagine that, the "block of ice" telling the "Little Prince" - well, in this case " Little Princess"- that her heart is made of lead!
Although Democrats vehemently protest they will never buy the book, many have been seen standing in line at Borders Book Stores everywhere, taking turns to read it in the store without buying it....no doubt impelled by "indignant curiosity"!!!
Again, all of that is to be expected; what is indeed a surprise is the way that some conservatives, even the likes of Fox's Shaun Hannity, and John Kasich of "Heartland," have chastised her about her supposed "mean" comments as well. It was the epitome of irony seeing the habitually rude and acerbic Bill O'Reilly lecturing Coulter on his show about being "sensitive." Priceless!
At the heart of the outroar are some comments Ann made in her latest book, "Godless: The Church of Liberalism", about a group of four New Jersey widows who are seen by Coulter as attemptiing to capitalize on the notoriety and celebrity status that the loss of their husbands in the tragic events of 9/11 has brought them, and to have used it as an anti-Bush anti-war political platform, which the Left has amply exploited for political purposes to advance its agenda. Surprise, surprise!
In her book, Coulter commented that these widows act "as if the terrorist attacks happened only to them," and adds in reference to the celebrity status afforded them by the Left and the media: "I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much."
Now, Ann Coulter may not have the conservative eruditeness of a William F. Buckley Jr., or the political wisdom of a Henry Kissinger, she is as a political "satirist", entertaining, poignant, often blunt to the point, and this time, she indeed does have a point!
I remember remarking (long before all this "hooplah" about Coulter's "mean" comments), as Cindy Sheehan was proudly strutting like a "peacock" in front of the cameras, protesting the war and accusing the president of being "a bigger terrorist than Osama Bin Laden," shielding herself from all criticism behind her "grief" at the loss of her son - she was arrested at a rally in Washington and hauled away by four police officers while sitting in a lawn chair (from which she refused to move), she had a sickening smirk of smug satisfaction on her face - as if she was the "Queen of Sheeba" being carried on a litter by her eunuchs (fully aware of the rolling cameras and popping all around her). The entire scene was sickening! (Recall that Sheehan's son volunteered knowing he would be called to Iraq, and then volunteered for the mission to save lives that resulted in his death.)
Similarly, take a good look at the image of three of the "four merry widows," (9/11 widows Lorie Van Auken, Patty Casazza and Kristin Breitweiser ... Rep. Nancy Pelosi D-Calif, left, in red suit) at the 2004 Glamour Magazine's "Women of the Year" awards, accepting the award at the hands of non other than Rep. Nancy Pelosi, and I dare say they look more to me like "elated" Game Show participants than grieving widows. You could almost hear the strains of Franz Lehár's immortal waltz playing in the background, but then, grief and joy may also be relative and interchangeable to Liberals and Lefties....just like moral values, sexual identity, and almost everything else. Remember, only us "Sith" deal in "absolutes" (such as the concepts of good and evil, and the existence of God) as Master Obi Wan told Anakin.
Meanwhile, since Miss Coulter's book is selling like hot-cakes amidst much vitriol (sufficient to have melted Darth Vader ... whereas the molten lava spared him ... ), and is number one on the New York Times Best-Seller List - Democratic Boycotts notwithstanding , she dons Darth's outfit to protect herself from the acidic attacks (in other words, she's one tough lady) and calmly goes on in her mask, breathing heavily (insert Darth Vader menacing heavy breathing sound here), laughing all the way to the bank.
