A 'Good-News' Day For Iraq And It's Prime Minister
Topics: Iraq
Amidst all the media coverage and celebration about the death ofZarqawi, let's not forget the other good news that Iraq's parliament approved new ministers of defense, interior and national security on Thursday, ending a three week stalemate among Iraq's sectarian and ethnic parties over the crucial posts:
It was an impressive double whammy for Iraq's new prime minister: first announcing the death of the country's most notorious terrorist, then getting approval for his government's final, key posts.Continue reading ...With that rapid fire of good news Thursday, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki grabbed strong control of his country _ and the United States seemed overjoyed.
"The success we are looking for _ a stable Iraq _ requires more effort ... But we can say that we had a good start," the prime minister told his people at a televised news conference to announce al-Zarqawi's killing.
Flanked by the country's top U.S. general and American ambassador, he pledged: "Whenever there is a new Zarqawi, we will kill him (too)."
Meanwhile, Al-Qaida in Iraq says it will continue its "holy war."
It comes in a Web site statement that also confirmed the death of its leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi (AH'-boo MOO'-sahb ahl-zahr-KOW'-ee).There is nothing "holy" about the Islamothugs "war", they're just too blinded by hate and so easily misled like lost dogs, for them to know it. They confuse holiness with hate, intolerance, and a theopolitical agenda controlled by clerics who, with little to no real education and a world view no larger than the religious community they control, dictate and preach their own individual interpretations of an easily distorted religious doctrine. And the jihadists are either too stupid or too poorly educated to think on their own and figure out that they're being duped! The statement refers to al-Zarqawi as a martyr and says "The death of our leaders is life for us." It goes on to say that the death "will only increase our persistence in continuing holy war so that the word of God will be supreme."
