Snoozzzz... 'Senate Breaks Deadlock On Immigration' (Updated)Topics: Immigration and Border Issues
Well, that's the "hot off the press" AP headline, but we all know how headlines can be deceiving - and in this case their grasping at straws:
Senate leaders say they have reached a deal to revive a broad immigration bill that could provide millions of illegal immigrants a chance to become American citizens. The agreement doesn't involve provisions of the law, but it does end, for now, a lingering political standoff. The ""considerable" number of amendments" and a need for a "compromise with the House" that makes this a non-story and a no-go for "illegal" immigration reform. However, we all know what we've learned to expect from the Republicans in the Senate - they talk a conservative game and vote with the Dems. And this always seems to be good for the Dem's politically, and bad for America - in spite of the fact that Americans have absolutely nothing to gain from illegal immigration and the illegal aliens claiming rights that aren't theirs and that they don't deserve (they are here I L L E G A L L Y).
The agreement brokered by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., and Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., breaks a political stalemate that has lingered for weeks.
Key to the agreement is who will be negotiating a compromise with the House and its tough enforcement-only bill.
The House passed much more strict immigration legislation in December. It would subject the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States to felony charges as well as deportation.
Republican leader Bill Frist says the Senate will send 14 Republicans and 12 Democrats to the other side of the Capitol to negotiate a compromise. Seven of the Democrats will be hand-picked by Democratic leader Harry Reid.
Frist said a "considerable" number of amendments would be debated when the Senate begins debating the bill early next week.
A reader at the Clinton Herald offers a perspective that the Senators should be giving taking into account:
Who put the gun to the head of the illegal aliens? No one did. They and only they are 100 percent responsible for their crimes. Making crossing our border a felony instead of a misdemeanor is the most logical attempt at controlling the problem anyone from Washington, D.C., has made in 20 years.
Mexicans feel it's their right to come to this country. They think they have the right to free health care, free education, welfare, food stamps and subsidized housing. They have absolutely no fear of prosecution.
The rally for immigration rights had nothing to do with immigration rights! What it had to do is with illegal aliens demanding America give up its sovereign rights to protect its borders. That's it in a nut-shell. Illegal aliens and those who support them choose who we let in, who we give visas to, who we make citizens and the direction of our culture.
The one-time amnesty of 1986 was expected to give citizenship to 1.1 million illegal aliens. However, we ended up with 2.7 million. Why is this so? In a word, fraud. ICE has just shut down 11 printing operations in eight states that produced tens of millions of what they call high quality forged immigration documents. What we are looking at is a well-coordinated, well-funded and well-planned attempt to make as may Mexicans as possible citizens of the United States. You'll note that Americans aren't on the short list of those that gain, and as for the political parties, really only the Dems gain because conservatives are so damned mad about the Republican's handling of this issue - they'll be sitting out the November elections.
Who loses? We all do with higher taxes. We all do with a decrease in the quality of education. California's high-school exit exam is now written on the eighth-grade level and 11 percent failed.
Who loses? The economic loss to this country will be incredible with more people working in our society with only an eighth-grade education. We all lose as our culture fractures and our citizens are unable to communicate with each other. We all lose when there are too many people moving here that don't want to become Americans in the true sense; they only want to abuse America.
Who gains? Illegal immigrants, Mexico and our political parties all gain.
Update - Other coverage: Diggers Realm: "It seems the Senate has agreed to sellout the American people. Big surprise there eh? Led by head traitor Bill Frist and agreed to by the likes of Harry Reid and Ted Kennedy it looks like they'll be putting their best amnesty foot forward."
