Islamic Scholars Embrace Hamas With Fatwa
Topics: Understanding IslamIslamic scholars plan to draw up a fatwa (religious edict) obliging faithful Muslims to provide financial and moral support to the "internationally isolated" terrorist organization - Hamas. The "scholars" are criticial of the West for rejecting "Palestinian democracy after encouraging such a democracy just because it doesn't suit them," and refer to it as "political hypocrisy".
Hamas is a militant anti-peace process organization bent on Israel's total destruction and the establishment of a Palestinian State in Israel's place ("There is no solution to the Palestinian problem except by Jihad") and it continues to recruit Muslim operatives (not just Palestinians) to carry out terrorist attacks in Israel, and although democratically elected, refuses to recognize Israel's right to exist, is closely aligned with the Muslim Brotherhood, whose motto ("Allah is our objective. The Prophet is our leader. The Qur'an is our law. Jihad is our way. Dying in the way of Allah is our highest hope") leaves little doubt as to it's relationship to terrorism and it's goal of an Islamic caliphate.
Such a plan by the Islamic scholars underpins the perception of many in the West that Islam supports terrorism by edict, associations, and actions, and makes it difficult for non-Muslims to recognize any difference between radical Muslims and liberal "non-jihadist" Muslims.
