Da Vinci Code Bombs With Critics - Gets Crucified
Topics: Human Interest
The Da Vinci Code as a movie is apparently quite a bomb with the critics. From Polipundit saying if you're planning to read the book (refers to it as a very bad Hardy Boys story) or watch the upcoming movie, spare yourself the trouble - to shrugs of indifference and jeering laughter from more formadable critics like the Cannes audience, it's an understatement to say that the movie is getting crucified.
Take a look at some of the comments:
(Polipundit) The book is designed to be read by 12-yeard olds. During a chase scene in Paris, a character feels the need to explain to another character that they should run for the US embassy because it is considered US soil. Not having bothered to read the book or see the movie, looks like I've saved money and avoided boredom. Looks like hollywood's attempt to discredit Christianity is in the sink.(Reuters) "Dud"; Unwieldy"; "Plodding."
(Hollywood Reporter) "A Bloated Puzzle"; "The movie is so drenched in dialogue musing over arcane mythological and historical lore and scenes grow so static that even camera movement can't disguise the dramatic inertia"; "No chemistry exists between the hero and the heroine."
(Boston Globe) "Almost as bad as the book."
(Press Association Newsfile) "At one point, some of them responded in the auditorium with laughter to one of the developments in the plot--something director Ron Howard would not have anticipated."
(AP) "Shrugs of indifference, some jeering laughter and a few derisive jabs"; "The Cannes audience clearly grew restless as the movie dragged on to two and a half hours and spun a long sequence of anticlimactic revelations"; "Some people walked out during the movie's closing minutes...and there was none of the scattered applause even bad movies sometimes receive at Cannes."
