Blood Pressure Drugs Associated With Reduced Risk Of Esophageal, Pancreatic And Colon Cancers

There's nothing better than getting double duty out of your medication, and for those who are currently taking angiotension converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, a type of medication commonly used to lower blood pressure, that's exactly what they're doing due to the medication's effect on tumor angiogenesis.

New research indicates that whle they are treating their hypertension, those who do so with ACE inhibitors are also significantly decreasing their risk of developing esophageal, pancreatic and colon cancer.

Researchers believe the potential benefit of ACE Inhibitors against cancer may be due to the suppression of tumor angiogenesis by blocking a growth protein called VEGF (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor), which is believed to play a significant role in the growth and reproduction of tumors.
