Ahmadinejad Gives In To Pressure Against Women Soccer Fans
Topics: Understanding IslamWhat's so interesting here is that as radical as Ahmadinejad is, this story clearly demonstrates that his handlers are even more radical:
Tehran, 9 May (AKI) - Just two weeks after Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced he would allow women into stadiums to watch soccer matches, government spokesman Gholam Hossein Elham said on Tuesday the measure had been withdrawn and the ban reinstated. Leading clerics in Iran slammed Ahmadinejad's decision on 24 April to admit women into stadiums and Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, asked the president to abide by their calls, the spokesman said. You'll recall that in February a disciple of Ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi, stated that using nuclear weapons as a counter-measure is acceptable in terms of sharia (Islamic law), depending upon the goal for which the weapons are used.Ahmadinejad had asked sports authorities throughout the country to renovate stadiums and sports centres so they could include women among the public at major sporting events. Ever since the foundation of the Islamic Republic in 1979, women have been banned from stadiums when male athletes compete.
Many members of Iran's leading party Abadgaran (Development), of which Ahmadinejad is a member, also opposed the plan.
These are the guys pulling Ahmadinejad's strings, and he's been talking about the return of the 12th Imam, also known as the Mahdi, in almost all his major speeches since he took office in August.
Apparently the nutty mullahs believe that having women at sports events is against Islamic values - these are the guys that have even cracked down on women's underwear. Crazy guys running a crazy guy.
