A Civil War Brewing In The Palestinian Territory?

Topics: Middle East News and Perspectives

All is not well between Hamas and the Fatah leaders.

After Egyptian diplomats and security officials based in the Gaza Strip spent more than six hours on Wednesday night trying to persuade the two groups to work toward preventing an all-out confrontation between the two parties, a midnight gun battle erupted on Thursday between security forces loyal to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and a new militia run by the Hamas-led government, competing for control of the Gaza Strip.

ThreatsWatch.org reports that Hamas is clearly enlisting the services and official partnership of affiliated terrorists in order to directly challenge Abbas for complete control of the Palestinian Authority, and that challenge may now be coming to a head as armed forces are hitting the street.

Apparently, Palestinians fear that the situation could erupt into a direct civil war. I hate to be insensitive, but if civil war between terrorist factions results in a lot of terrorists wiping out a lot of other terrorists, that could only be a good thing. The only problem of course is the innocent men, women and children that would die in the process, who want no part of the violence and hate so prevalent in the Palestinian culture.
