Rapists tried to blame cultural background for their actions

Topics: Understanding Islam

Tegan was 14 when she was raped by 4 brothers who are of Pakistani origin. Yesterday, Tegan had her day in court where she faced her attackers and told them where they could go in not so polite terms. Young Tegan has been very brave because she has revealed her identity in a bid to get other girls to come forward and lay complaints against the brothers.

Another of the victims, CH, has now allowed herself to be identified. This girl was another victim of these Pakistanis who had absolutely no respect for teenage girls, seeing them as fodder to be raped and used because they were not wearing the traditional Muslim dress.

The men involved in this case actually tried to make a plea for leniency based upon their "cultural background", that is they are Muslim and therefore they believed that they had the right to rape these girls because the dress that they adopted offended them. This is of course a pathetic reason for violating a young girl and raping her.

A very interesting issue in this case comes from the revelation that one of the rape victims has a father who is a devout Muslim. By coming forward and allowing herself to be interviewed on the TV she has also revealed that her fafher is a devout Muslim and that her father was shocked over what happened (and obviously shocked that they have used their Muslim religion as a defence in such a heinous crime).

What is much worse about this case is that there are other girls who were victims and these girls have not, as yet been identified by the police. They have obviously suffered from the effects of being gang raped at the hands of these four men who have been raised in Australia but who seem to think that they can continue the habits of the village where they were born.

Why should Australia waste its resources having these four cooped up in jail. A far better alternative would be to expel them and their family from Australia and have them returned to Pakistan where they can continue to behave like savages. Expulsion from the country would be a better use of taxpayer funds and bring about a more appropriate resolution to the problem.
