Is Islam the Enemy?
Topics: War on Terror - the issues.Building on the article by the Boroumand sisters I blogged yesterday, I want to finally answer the question as to whether Islam is our enemy in the war on terrorism. First, I should reveal my own biases. I am not a Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, or of any standard religion. I am not a Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, liberal or conservative. I am an agnostic regarding all, and fundamentally a secular freedomist. My approach is that of an anthropologist from Mars, who is trying to evaluate earthly matters without favoritism, a man from Mars that favors democratic freedom because of the empirically objective solutions it provides to many of humanity's problems.
By enemy, then, I mean anyone who is in violent war against such freedom.
Now, when we read about the third class citizenship of Muslim women and their honor murders; the Muslims dancing in the street in happiness over the 9/11 crime against humanity; the repeated sing-song of "Allah akbar" (Allah is the greatest) when murdering "infidels;" the absolute anti-Semitism and barbarism in the speeches of public Islamic figures; the genocide of Jews; the alleged crimes of homosexuality, and of Muslims converting to Christianity; the destructive Islamic intolerance of all that is non-Islamic; the death threats against those who criticize Islam, or are simply expressing their opinion; the anti-American, anti-Israeli screeds of many Islamic leaders; and the seeming lack of moral offense by the vast majority of Muslims over terrorists murdering human beings by the hundreds, even fellow Muslims, and destroying mosques with their bombs. Enough. Doubtlessly, much more can be added to this litany. And as a result, that Islam is the enemy seems only commonsensical. But, this is mistaking cultural epiphenomenon for the real terrorist enemy.
