Iraq's Next Premier - Just Another Al-Jaafari ?
Topics: IraqThinking that Jawad al-Maliki will be much better than Ibrahim al-Jaafari at curing Iraq's ills may be wishful thinking. After all, Maliki is a product of political Islam allied to the rebel-cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, sectarian in his policies, and likes Iran:
The similarities among Maliki, Adeeb and Jaafari are too difficult to ignore, and the rival Iraqi politicians might realize that they are back to Square 1, with someone like Jawad al-Maliki, who looks like Jaafari, acts like Jaafari, thinks like Jaafari, and is the product of the same political school as Jaafari. But on the other hand, USA today seems to love the guy...
As time goes on and as we look back to where we've come from in Iraq, yes there's progress. But things would be a hell of a lot easier if we'd made fewer mistakes, one of which was our failure to get rid of those damned militias in the begining.
