'Beware of the people who are having fun competing with you'
Topics: BlogosphereGlenn Reynolds aptly writes about the technological (blogging) revolution that is redistributing jouralistic power and influence to the amateur many:
Where before journalists and pundits could bloviate at leisure, offering illogical analysis or citing "facts" that were in fact false, now the Sunday morning op-eds have already been dissected on Saturday night, within hours of their appearing on newspapers' websites.Reynolds (Instapundit) also cites specific examples in which bloggers have scooped big media, especially in Iraq. Although mainstream media continues to dominate the dissemination of information, the weblog community has become an important asset to information consumers, often providing information that otherwise would not be available.Annoyance to journalists is the least of this; what is really going on is something much more profound: the end of the power of Big Media.
We'd like to see more growth and more cooperation of international bloggers, especially those fighting for freedom in restricted access countries.
