(...) The Prime Minister, although attending the services in the Downing Street sitting room, is understood not to have taken Holy Communion with his wife and children. We in the U.S. remember what a big deal it was when John F. Kennedy became America's first Catholic president. Apparently, having a Catholic pime minister is as big a deal in Britain today, as it was for America to have a Catholic president in 1961.(...) The Prime Minister is a High Church Anglican. His wife Cherie is Catholic and the couple's four children have been raised within the faith.
(...) He has also attended Masses at Chequers, which in the past were conducted by Fr Timothy Russ, the parish priest of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in nearby Great Missenden, Bucks. Fr Russ has said that he believes that Mr Blair is ready to convert, although not while he is still serving as Prime Minister.
