U.S. Military Launches Operation Swarmer In Iraq
Topics: Iraq
In what's being billed as the largest air offensive in Iraq since the 2003 invasion, an operation involving more than 50 aircraft and 1,500 Iraqi and U.S. troops as well as 200 tactical vehicles targeted suspected insurgents operating near the town of Samarra, 100 km (60 miles) north of Baghdad. "Operation Swarmer" was launched this morning and is expected to continue for several days.
News of the operation started coming out less than an hour ago, and Fox News (especially on TV) appears to be all over the story. I'm trying to get info out of Iraq but have so far been unsuccessful. More to come later.
More also at S.F. Gate.
