The Cartoon Jihad and The Salmon Rushdie Case: Same Pattern
Topics: Understanding Islam
Poul Højlund of PIA CAUSA posts on The Satanic Precedent of the Mohammad Cartoons, an article by Helle Merete Brix in Weekendavisen, a Danish weekly, that points to the common patterns of the Cartoon War and the Salmon Rushdie Case (his Satanic Verses resulted in Ayatollah Khomeni declaring a fatwa on his life).
So how is it that 12 cartoons depicting the prophet Muhammed published in a Danish newspaper can lead to a fatwa, threats from Al-Qaeda, diplomatic crisis, massive boycott of Danish goods and flag burnings in the West Bank? How can 12 cartoons get the Moslem World to jump on Jyllands-Posten and the Danish Prime Minister? To understand the dramatic developments of the Muhammed cartoons issue, it may be enlightening to recollect the case of Salman Rushdie's The Satanic Verses.AGORA has the translation of the Free Press Society 2004 / Sappho.
Poul links to "The Project" which is an article on the script for the Islamic move for supremacy from 1982, to help make clear what we are up against.
The most interesting thing, however, is Poul's list of the agendas involved in the Cartoon War:
Poul thinks it odd that these patterns haven't become clear to the Western media yet, and that we see high leveled politicians on the wrong side of the issue. However, in the context of the mostly liberal and politically correct agendas of both media and politicians, it's what we've all come to expect - a blind eye to the truth when it doesn't fit into their compartmentalized view of the world. These days, more often then not, both the media and many politicians fail to recognize the big picture, or refuse to, until the new citizen-based media, blogs, and their readers, draw it for them.
