Pakistan Military Kill 120 Taliban Terrorists Near Afghan Border
Topics: War on TerrorIf you only read the headline in the Washington Post, you'd think that the Taliban is really taking it to the Pakistani military, after all, it reads, "Pro-Taliban Rebel Holdouts Give Pakistanis a Fierce Fight." But that isn't what's happening at all. Apparently, President Bush's trip to Pakistan is already paying dividends, because the toll among the terrorists (WaPo calls them "militants") exceeds 120 in just 3 days.
Pakistans on again, off again, on again campaign against Taliban and al-Qaeda forces have sent less than a clear message to the terrorists, and Musharraf may be learning that although "angering and alienating the tribes" certainly isn't helpful, far worse is allowing the Islamists to congregate in the northern border regions and build strength, only to emerge later as a much greater threat. One can't help but wonder why he hasn't realized this much sooner.
Captain's Quarters has more commentary on the story.
