Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour Likely To Sign Abortion Ban

Topics: Life Issues

jwcbannerfetus.bmpA Change in attitudes and laws regarding abortion is in the air, and not only in the U.S.:

Mississippi's Governor Haley Barbour says if the state legislature sends him an anti-abortion bill like the one that was passed last week in South Dakota, he'll probably sign it. And it looks like he's going to have an opportunity to do so.

Only last week, South Dakota lawmakers passed a similar bill that was intended to provoke a legal showdown over Roe v. Wade. The measure is awaiting Republican Gov. Mike Rounds' signature and he has said he is inclined to sign it.

In Australia, Prime Minister John Howard has announced the Federal Government will set up a hotline to refer women to a range of counselling services if they are pregnant and considering a termination, and although there will be no change to Medicare funding for abortion - he says there is a widely-held view in the community that there are too many pregnancy terminations in Australia every year.

... where an unwanted pregnancy occurs the purpose is to provide additional support to not assume that the only option is a termination."
None of this constitutes a watershed for change in U.S. abortion laws, but a brief look at The National Organization For Women's website, and you can see that NOW is feeling the heat and recognizes that open-ended and unrestricted abortion is definately under attack.
