Israel's Defense Minister: 'Iran gave Islamic Jihad $1.8 million to kill Israelis'

You can't mean it - Iran giving money to terrorists to kill Israelis?

Iran recently transferred $1.8 million to Islamic Jihad terrorists in the West Bank, encouraging them to carry out attacks in Israel ahead of its March 28 election, Israel's defense minister said in an interview published Tuesday.

The money came from Iran, through Syria, and then into the West Bank, Shaul Mofaz, the defense minister, was quoted as saying in an interview with Ynet, a Web site affiliated with the Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot.

"We know that Iran transferred in the last month $1.8 million to the Islamic Jihad organization in order to carry out terrorist attacks against Israel," Mofaz said.

Although the deputy secretary-general of the Islamic Jihad movement denied the statements of the Israeli Defense Minister, the denial flies in the face of direct evidence and previous experience. This story reminds me of what Condoleezza Rice said about Iran: "This is a country determined to develop a nuclear weapon ... and is the central bank for terrorism."

And while Rice's comments refer to Iran's global funding of terrorism, they apply even more so when it comes to funding and providing resources for terrorism against Israeli targets. After all, remember the capture of the "Karine A"? Nothings changed since then, and much should have!
