Americans Have Increasingly Negative Perception Of Islam

Topics: Understanding Islam

Robert Spencer at Jihad Watch refers to what he calls, "A handwringing article from the Bandar Beacon, otherwise known as the Washington Post," that bemoans the fact that more Americans in 2006 think that Muslims are disproportionately prone to violence than they did in 2001. The Washington Post, known to the many bloggers as The Dhimmi Post, quoting Islamic apologists such as Juan Cole (also here) and others (the WaPo piece also quotes such Islam apologists as James Zogby and Ronald Stockton, places the blame on politicians and the media. The WaPo article is an astonishing apologetics piece for Islam, and is written more as a "blame America" article than reporting the facts regarding the well deserved negative perception of Islam, given the global acts of it's followers

Spencer goes on to jab at the WaPo by saying, "Golly gee, there are some swell Muslims out there, so that means that the Americans who believe that Islam is violent are wrong, doesn't it?", and lays out five very good suggestions for Muslims, if they don't want Islam to be perceived as encouraging violence.
