UNSC Decision Awaiting Review Of Mystery Iranian Laptop?
Topics: Iran
Is the mystery laptop, allegedly from an Iranian scientist, that spells out all their nuclear plans genuine?
As foreign ministers from Britain, France, Germany and America are seeking a strategy ahead of Thursday's International Atomic Energy Agency meeting in Vienna, where a decision is expected to be made on referral to the UN Security council, Channel 4 News (UK) has learned that the IAEA is hoping to stall the decision so it can get the Iranians to explain computer files from a laptop it received from American intelligence - which the US claims are evidence Iran was researching a nuclear bomb.
In November 2005 The Guardian reported that the laptop is said to have been obtained from a source inside Iran, and contains more than 1,000 pages of computer simulations and accounts of experiments believed to be part of a long-term programme to design a nuclear warhead compatible with Iran's Shahab missile - capable of reaching Israel and other Middle Eastern countries.
The computer documents specified a blast of about 600 metres (2,000ft) above a target, considered to be the optimum height for a nuclear explosion.
