The French Connection
Topics: War on TerrorIs there a collaboration between the French and the U.S. going on in a "classic diplomatic minuet," with the French and Americans have consciously played a good cop-bad cop routine? Perhaps, as in framing policy on Syria and Iran, while the U.S. demands tough U.N. language; the French bring the Russians and Chinese on board for a slightly watered-down version. David Ignatius suggests in the WaPo today (I really hate to read this paper) that President Bush may have a new ally - France, and that the quiet partnership has probably benefited from the fact that the world still thinks France and America are enemies.
