Swedish 'Mohammed Drawing Competition' Website Shut Down Under Pressure From Govt Officials
Topics: Dhimmitude
Incredible as it seems, a Swedish party's website displaying the image to the right has been shut down by it's Internet hosting company following pressure from the police and the foreign ministry, concerned over fears of Muslim anger. The caption says in Swedish, "Danish Mohammad self-censorship." One would have to wonder how anyone could find it offensive - it doesn't appear to be much of a provocative or rage-inspiring image. But of course the concern isn't the reaction of rational human beings, the concern has to do with those Muslims that don't understand that it's not important for Christians, Jews or Buddhists to respect Islam; it is only important that they do. After all, it is their religion.
(SR International) A far-right Swedish party's website showing cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad has been shut down by the Internet hosting company after pressure from police and the foreign ministry, fearing it would fuel Muslim anger.Michelle Malkin has more.
The anti-immigrant Swedish Democrats had invited readers to send in cartoons for publishing on its website alongside the Danish cartoons, which have sparked violent demonstrations by Muslims around the world. After Foreign Minister Laila Freivalds warned of "grave consequences for Swedish people and Swedish interests" and said Muslim countries were already reacting, the web hosting company Levonline pulled the plug, a company director said on Friday.
"We have been in contact with the foreign ministry and SAPO (security police) and in consultation with them we decided this was best," its deputy director Anna Larsson told Swedish Radio.
You'll find the self-censoring CNN's coverage of the story here (HT - Michelle Malken).
What makes the action even more cowardly and serving to reward violent rage, thereby encouraging radical Islamic behavior, is the fact that according to Amir Taheri, writing in the Opinion Journal, says that Islam prohibits neither images of Muhammad nor jokes about religion, and that the claim that the ban on depicting Muhammad and other prophets is an absolute principle of Islam is also refuted by history. Apparently many portraits of Muhammad have been drawn by Muslim artists, often commissioned by Muslim rulers, themselves.
