Arab European League Posts Cartoons Depicting Anne Frank, Hitler In Bed
Topics: Understanding IslamAlthough Jews and Christians alike will find this "terribly offensive" and ill-advised, "serving only to anger Jews throughout the world" - since we published the cartoons of Muhammad, and displayed them prominently on the site, we in-turn are giving the Arab European League the same coverage given to the Danish cartoons of Muhammad.

Apparently at least one Muslim group, the Arab European League, "get's it" in terms of free speech and is "fighting" the Muhammad cartoon issue with words and images of their own, instead of violence (although the group supports Iran, Hamas, the insurgency in Iraq, believes that Zionism is racism, and is intensely anti-American) - albeit they betray great ignorance of the existence of the Holocaust and a willingness to distort facts to the furtherance of their agenda (but this is fair play - a battle with words and images, not violence).
A Belgian-Dutch Islamic political organization posted anti-Jewish cartoons on its Web site in response to the cartoons of the prophet Mohammed that appeared in Danish papers last year and offended many
Muslims. The cartoons were posted on the Arab European League's site on Saturday
The Islamic site carried a disclaimer saying the images were being shown as part of an exercise in free speech rather than to endorse their content - just as European newspapers have reprinted the Danish cartoons.
One of the AEL cartoons displayed an image of Dutch Holocaust victim Anne Frank in bed with Adolf Hitler, and another questioned whether the Holocaust actually occurred.
Dyab Abou Jahjah, the party's founder and best-known figure, defended the action on the Dutch television program Nova Saturday.
As we posted yesterday from Jim Geraghty's piece at NRO, while (we are) "appalled by the violence and threats of violence by those who claim to be so offended," (we) "have a hard time mustering much vigor for a defense of the cartoonists" be they of the newspaper or those of the Arab European League. "Yes, they have a right to say it," but we don't have to defend the cartoons as if they were a good thing. ( We) "don't like Kanye West comparing himself to Christ, or Serrano's "Piss Christ" art, or that idiotic Jesus-was-gay play "Corpus Christi", or other efforts to poke at sensitivities"" of Jews and Christians' - so why should we be cheering when someone else makes an effort to poke at Muslims' sensitivities or when Muslims poke at Jewish and Christian sensitivities? Why should Muslims cheer when this occurs?
We shouldn't, and they shouldn't, but we can all laugh, ar just be disgusted, after all, these are cartoons! They make a statement, and the originators have a right to make it - but NOT to commit violence.
It's nice to know that at least a few Muslims understand this.
