Cheney Shoots Friend

Topics: Strange but true

cheneys_gun.gifIt was an accident:

Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot and injured a man during a weekend quail hunting trip in Texas, his spokeswoman said Sunday.

Harry Whittington, 78, was "alert and doing fine" after Cheney sprayed Whittington with shotgun pellets on Saturday at the Armstrong Ranch in south Texas, said property owner Katharine Armstrong.

His critics, however, are going to have a field day.

Note about the picture: Vice President Dick Cheney received a rifle from the National Rifle Association's President Kayne Robinson.

Update: In the interest of fairness and before anti-gun opportunists begin their campain of misinformation, let's not forget the 11th hour desperation photo op by former presidential candidate John Kerry:

Whittington is reportedly doing well with Cheney by his side and the incident is classified as a hunting accident. However, Chenney critics and Latenight television are not going to have a lot of fun.

Others: StoptheACLU, Michelle Malkin (Reader C.T. writes: "I'd rather hunt with Dick Cheney than ride with Ted Kennedy .")

Subject: Missed opportunity.
What is really a shame, is that Vice President Cheney did not invite the likes of Senators Kennedy, Reid, Durbin, Pelosi, Clinton etc. to join him in the quail hunt.

He might have done a service to the Country if the accident had involved them, instead of poor Harry Whittington!

I am glad there is a lot of good press coverage on this as a reminder that this can happen to anyone and it is critical to follow all safety rules when hunting.

If this had been anybody else - not wealthy or powerful- law enforcement/some state attorney would be trying to find a criminal charge tot h put on the person.

Also, Kerry is legitimately a regular hunter.

"... Kerry is legitimately a regular hunter" - yet the photo op was obvious, even to Kerry proponents.

"... What is really a shame" - the shame is that this happened at all. I wouldn't wish a buckshot wound on anyone.

more fun with Kerry here.

Subject: Being squimish?
I don't know about that. Being that such a wound is not life-threatening, yet very painful, and mostly highly embarrassing, I dare say that there are a number of Democratic Senators that could certainly use some buckshot in their butts!!!
LMAO!
