'Broccoli And Cauliflower Can Fight Cancer'

A research study shows that a chemical found in vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage can boost DNA repair in cells and may stop them from becoming cancerous. The chemical is a compound called I3C (indole-3-Carbinol) the unstable precursor to diindolylmethane. Although population studies have previously suggested a link between eating cruciferous vegetables (a chemical called genistein in soy beans) and protection against cancer, this study demonstrates a molecular mechanism on how they might work.

While it's long established that eating a balanced diet, which was high in fibre plus plenty of fruit and vegetables, lowered the risks of developing many forms of cancer, eating more broccoli appears to be an added edge. If you aren't eating enough broccoli, you might consider asking your physician about supplementing your diet with I3C. If you choose to do so, I recommend using DIM-plus by Nature's Way (best buy I've found is at, which has been shown to have superior bioavailability to I3C.
