About That Car Bomb Attack In Saudi Arabia

Topics: Terrorism

As most readers have heard by now, suicide bombers in explosives-laden cars attacked the world's largest oil processing facility Friday, but were prevented from breaking through the gates when guards opened fire on them, causing the vehicles to explode. The two cars used in the attack had been disguised to look like ARAMCO vehicles, enabling the terrorists to enter the complex.

The media account in the leasing Arabic international daily, "asharq alawsat," provides good news coverage of the attack.

Andrew Cochran at The Counterterrorism Blog has updated coverage of the attack and good commentary.

Reuters reported at 3 PM ET that "Oil climbs 4 percent on Saudi attack." Apparently, just the idea of an attack in Saudi Arabia is enough to make the market "jumpy," read - excuse to raise prices!

CS Monitor has the not-so startling revelation that analysts are saying that the Saudi attack could be a new tactic aimed at slowing the US economy.

Swiss Info actually has the very latest media report, as of 23 minutes ago - Suicide bombers try to storm Saudi oil facility.
