What Drives Radical Islam's Engine ?

While we're breezing through a couple of quick reads this morning (I've had a late start), Tom Bevan has a piece at RCP that caught my eye. I've long believed that bringing democracy to the Middle East was a great idea, but a waste of time in the War On Terror without a parallel push to dramatically change the way we in the West fullfil our major energy needs - in short, we have needed a ""Manhattan Project" designed to perfect hydrogen fuel technology and have massive government based incentives for car manufacturers and consumers to switch to hybrid vehicles," among other things, that would facilitate the "drying-up" of the fuels for tools of radical Islam.

Tom talks about this in his piece, and more:

Think about terrorism as a machine currently in motion. We want to slow it down, to grind it to a halt, if possible, and radical Islamists want the machine to move faster, gaining in momentum and force. If you were to pop the hood on this metaphorical terror machine, you'd find three major components keeping its engine running: technology, tolerance, and money. The good news, as well as the bad, is that terrorists rely heavily on the Western world for all three.
