Syria Joins Protest Against Danish Cartoons Muslims Deem Insulting To Their Prophet Mohammed
Topics: Understanding IslamThe Scotsman reports that Syria has joined the "chorus" of Arab and Islamic countries condemning caricatures published in a Danish newspaper deemed insulting to Islam's prophet Mohammed, and wants the Danish government to "punish the offenders."
The 12 drawings were published on September 30, 2005, by Jyllands-Posten - included one showing Mohammed wearing a turban shaped as a bomb with a burning fuse (see below). Another portrayed him with a bushy grey beard and holding a sword, his eyes covered by a black rectangle. Our original post on the story has more about the controvery, including the fact that death threats by Muslims forced the Jyllands-Posten to hire security guards to protect its employees.
Politicians and Muslim leaders across the Islamic world have denounced the caricatures as insulting to the faith and its prophet. Islam bars any depiction of the prophet, even respectful ones, out of concern that such images could lead to idolatry. Perhaps these dhimmi politicians and the Muslim leaders have never heard of free speech!
Fortunately for the free world and those of us who do NOT want to live under sharia law, Jyllands-Posten has refused to apologise for the drawings, citing freedom of speech. Many Muslims and all Islamists have no comprehension of the meaning of the term - free speech. "Islam's prophet Mohammed" is just that - Islam's prophet, he means absolutely nothing to the rest of the world except a symbolism for war and terrorism, best depicted by the above cartoon.
