Muqtada Al-Sadr: 'The Mahdi Army is beyond the Iraqi army. It was established to defend Islam.'

Here's something that everyone has known for a long time, in Iraq and elsewhere, but it's good to now have it out front and center in the eyes of the Iraqi people: LGF posted on Sunday that Shi'ite cult leader Muqtada al-Sadr says his holy warriors (the "Mahdi Army") will come to the defense of Iran, and that his Mahdi Army was formed to defend Islam.

I look at this as a good thing - better for the Iraqis to openly know the enemy of a free, independent and democratic Iraq, than to ignore the lie of al-Sadr having allegiance to his own country. As to how this will actually play with the Iraqis, is of course yet to be determined.

Al-Sadr is first and foremost, an Islamist, and percieves Iran as the "Mother" of the Islamic revolution - as should the whole world. Should Iran be allowed to go nuclear, with suicide considered by Islamists as a glorious end, God help us all....

As we see elsewhere in the world, Islamists place Islam ahead of nationhood.
