Michael (Update)

Topics: Iraq

I've never posted on personal matters before, and don't really like the idea of doing so now. But I do want to write a brief sentence or two about a dream I had last night, one that I actually woke up with it still going on.

I had been dreaming about my young son, Michael, and how much I missed him when he was with his mother (we were divorced and shared joint custody, although he actually spent much of the time living with me). In the dream I hadn't seen him for a while, and missed him terribly. I wondered why his mother wasn't letting me see him, and the dream was so very real, that I literally woke up sweating, hurting inside, and not knowing where I was. My first thought was that I had just this past weekend attended the wedding of another son, and Michael hadn't been there either. So I reached for the telephone to call Michael's mother.

It was only at that moment that I realized that Michael is in Iraq, and no longer my little boy.

Needless to say, I do miss him very much, and pray that he is alright. And if by chance, Michael, you have an opportunity to read this today - stay safe, and call me as soon as your Von-phone gets to you (you should have kept the one you had before).

As for our readers, I apologize for taking your time with something so silly as some guy's dream.

As a footnote, my son Michael was named after the shepherd in Wordsworth's poem of the same name. In the context of my dream, it's ironic that In the poem, the shepherd is the old man - but the description of Michael, fits that of my son.

Regular posts will begin in a little while, I'm taking a laptop down to Paneras Bread Company, and will be posting from there today, away from the house.

12:25 PM Update: I received a telephone call from Michael a few minutes ago - he's safe, but leaving to go "back on the job" as we spoke
