Abortion harms mental health

Topics: Life Issues

A New Zealand study, completed by a pro-choice atheist, has concluded that young women who have abortions prior to the age of 25 have a greater risk of having major depression.

The study was conducted because of the available dearth of information in this most critical area. One of the reasons given by pro-abortion activists is that a pregnancy can be dangerous to the mental health of the women. However, the conclusions of this study point to the fact that procuring an abortion can be equally, if not more, dangerous to the mental health of a young woman.

The author of the study has stated that he is a pro-choice atheist. His only interest in the subject was the lack of adequate data on the mental health consequences of procured abortion. It would seem that despite his allegiances his study has proved what those of us who have remained anti-abortion have always maintained: that the reasons being given to request abortion are not very well thought out, and that the pro-choice people have a very different agenda.

Isn't it time for a total review of this situation? The attitude towards the procuring of abortion as though it is a woman's right, regardless of the right of the unborn child, needs to be checked. Anti-abortion advocates need to raise their voices in protest over the misleading information that is being given to young women who find themselves pregnant. There are other choices and they are not being informed about those real choices that are available to them.
