Unmanned Flying Drones For Border Patrol
Topics: Immigration and Border IssuesPresident George W. Bush has promised the use of unmanned flying drones to help patrol the porous US-Mexican border as Democrats charged he had not done enough to provide border security.
Hopefully they're armed with Hellfire missiles:

But some might consider that a bit of "overkill."

all joking aside, I've been contemplating designing a cheap and simple drone for law enforcement use. essentially a cheap RC plane with large hollow blow molded wings and fuselage to serve as a gas tank to allow long duration slow speed loitering and a fixed low-light/infrared camera with an RF downlink for the video and a gps downlink. the goal would be to keep the cost under say $500 so that if it is lost due to operator error and cannot be repaired/salvaged, the replacement cost would not be prohibitive. this would also be useful for border security. perhaps I should get busy designing....

Rorschach,
Get busy designing, but please, make sure it accomodates at least two Hellfires, so as not to waste too much time having to rearm.
