Taliban kill two in attack on Afghan school

Under the Taliban interpretation of Islamic Sharia law, female education was banned, along with female employment. Since the overthrow of the Taliban government by the US-led invasion of 2001, the Afghan government claims six million Afghan children have returned to school, many of them girls. However, Taliban Islamothugs in the south have repeatedly targeted schools, burning many to the ground at night, beating teachers and sometimes, just warning teachers.

On Saturday, they killed a guard and a male teenage student In Lashkargah, the capital the southern province of Helmand. On Thursday, Taliban guerillas dragged a teacher from a classroom of teenagers in another district of Helmand and executed him at the school gate after he ignored their orders to stop teaching girls.

But help is apparently on the way - about 4,000 British troops will be deployed to the province in April to combat "what appears to be an increasingly confident insurgency." But of course it seems reasonable to ask, "What's the rush"? That "increasingly confident insurgency (mindless, female-hating, Islamothugs) will have both increased and have become even more emboldened in over three months, and a lot of teachers and students will have died.

Take home message - it's time to get the troops in now, not later!
