Mom Seeks To Euthanize Daughter She Gave Up For Adoption
Topics: Life IssuesHelp me out here, I'm a little slow and have a problem understanding this.
Let's see, a "mother," by biological fact only, gives up her daughter Haleigh for adoption five years ago, long before Haleigh is mercilessly kicked down a flight of stairs repeatedly and hit with a baseball bat by her stepfather, and subsequently ends up in a hospital attached to a ventilator and feeding tube.
And now the "mother" wants her child euthanized? Haleigh's doctors say that she will never recover from her "vegetative state," (where have we heard that before?) and that the most she might ever do is open her eyes.
I guess I have only a couple of questions about this. One, what moral right does a "mother," by biological fact only, who gave up her parental rights to a potentially abusive situation, have to demand the death of that child ? While I can understand her "expressed" feelings of guilt, shouldn't life take precedence over death, and shouldn't Haleigh be given every opportunity to live?
Regardless of one's feelings about controversial issues such as "euthanasia" and "vegetative state," shouldn't life be given every possible chance? I bet the death advocates, the so-called "right to die" enthusiasts, are foaming at the mouth in anticipation, over this case.
As for the stepfather who put Haleigh in her present condition, the mere fact that he want's her kept alive, doesn't give him any moral cover either, since his own selfish concern to avoid being charged with murder remains his primary, if not only, motivation for opposing Haleigh's euthanasia.
A very sad case, indeed - a child lies in a hospital, the result of terrible beatings, while her mother wants her put to death and her step father wants her to live so he won't be charged with her murder. This, while society continues to battle over whether or not death should take precedence over life, or life over death. It would seem to be such a simple decision, but in the context of today's secular influence, and a very liberal media, life continues to be relegated to the back seat in deference to death, the exact opposite of what is suggested by common sense and morality.

I just discovered this story on CNN and came looking around the pro-life websites to see whether any one else was outraged about it. Apparently there's no one who has standing before the court to advocate for the little girl's life? The only person who doesn't want her dead is her miserable father? This sounds way too familiar. How can they give up on her after only a few months?

The problem seems to be that no one wants to listen to those who advocate for life, because the culture of death has taken such a strong hold.
