HarryTho 12/16 Natalee Holloway Update and Commentary

Topics: Natalee Holloway

For this evening's editorial, I will recount the adventures of the day:

Perhaps the biggest news of the day was the meeting between Congressman Bacchus and the Aruban delegation. Despite our forewarnings of a closing of the case, it appears that Congressman Bacchus is pleased with the meeting and its frankness. One can only imagine the content of the frankness that Congressman Bacchus referenced.

Nonetheless, it would appear that the Arubans have the support of the DA of Jefferson County and Congressman Bacchus. I can only surmise that the talks were informative and direct to acquire such willingness from the boycott-hawking Alabamans.

So, begining with - Bachus, Aruban Officials Discuss Teen...

WASHINGTON (AP) - Rep. Spencer Bachus said he came away from a Friday meeting with Aruban officials with the sense that they plan to vigorously pursue leads in the disappearance of American student Natalee Holloway.

Bachus, R-Ala., whose district includes Mountain Brook, where Holloway is from, divulged little about the substance of the meeting, saying only it was a "frank and open discussion" and that Aruban authorities have devoted "tremendous resources" to the case.

"Their intention going forward ... is not to shut this case down, but to continue to pursue it vigorously," Bachus told reporters. "They do not consider it a closed case nor do they consider that they have a dead end. They continue to develop information and pursue leads."

Bachus met with three state prosecutors from Alabama and at least three officials from the Dutch Caribbean island, including Aruban Deputy Police Chief Dolf Richardson, for more than two hours. He said the Aruban officials planned meetings with FBI officials while in Washington.

David Barber, district attorney for Jefferson County, Ala., said he offered his assistance to the Arubans but added that in order for them to contact people in Alabama who may have more information about Holloway, they must go through international protocols.

John Quinlan Kelly, a New York-based attorney for the Holloway family, said Natalee Holloway's parents wanted him to attend the meeting, but the lawmaker's office told Holloway's family the Arubans objected to that.

Though Congressman Bacchus claims the investigation is ongoing, it sees clear from the press release that the investigation is moving to Mountain Brook and that the FBI will be involved. Even one of the Alabama DAs volunteers assistance. Certainly, the case is not a dead end, if they are permitted to investigate Natalee's classmates and chaperones in Mountain Brook, AL.

Whether or not the case will close entirely seems unlikely with the support of the Alabama law enforcement. Whatever the Arubans discussed in Washington, DC, it may have entailed the desperation of the avenues of inquiry in Aruba. Clearly, support in the USA by Alabama law enforcement and the FBI were required to restimilate this investigation. Mountain Brook, here we come!

In other news, the Dairio has referenced our pregnancy theory and added some input of their own that makes the theory more plausible (Scared Monkeys has a translation of the article referring to our post).

[Translation also in yesterday's Hyscience comments... ]

The knowledge (allegedly) that a physician was sought after for an abortion is a key item of information that has not received much publicity. Also, the Dairio reports that Natalee expects to come out of hiding in January 2006, after she has given birth, and will tell her story.

This "coming out" of Natalee may have been the prime mover of the Aruban prediction that the case would be resolved in January 2006. It seems likely that there are no guilty parties in Aruba, despite the prior calls for incarcerations from Alabama.

Jossy Mansur and his staff were kind to us, despite our adversarial demeanor in past posts. Looks as if Jossy truly desires to solve this case. It is clear from his comments that he allows himself to exonerate Joran and the Kalpoe brothers under the scenario that we presented. Sometimes, theories when they strike the right cord bring the most vehement of adversaries together.

Also, the Amigo Newspaper mentioned earlier that the Aruban delegation would meet members of congress with an "s" on members. It seems that more than Congressman Bacchus was on their list of appointments.

A delegation consisting of chief of police Dolfi Richardon and lawyer Arleen Ellis-Schipper went to Washington today to talk with American members of congress on the Natalee Holloway case. They will definitely talk to Spencer Bacchus from Alabama.
Perhaps by January 2006, we will have a full-scale investigation ongoing in Mountain Brook, AL.

From the talking heads of cable, Rita Crosby of MSNBC interviewed Steve Cohen, Beth Twitty and Julia Renfro.

Steve described the meeting as productive. Rita harped on the comment from Congressman Bacchus "It's OK to lie in Aruba." Rita actually went out of her way to play this line up. Steve tried to explain the legal process within the interrogation system. He was not clear.

Beth Twitty assisted Steve with "Lying is OK" as a suspect but not as a witness. She seemed to brush off Rita's naivety of the lying issue. Beth already encountered this roadblock early on the investigation. Beth harped upon Action over Words in this case. Rita commented that it appeared that you cannot be charged with anything in Aruba. Beth fell into her groove of lack of law enforcement protection and everyone knows the suspects are responsible. Beth says she has to rely on the Aruban law enforcement to eventually surface.

Julia Renfro would not buy into Rita's "Lying is OK in Aruba" comment. She simply reacted like it was news to her. She claims that the investigation is ongoing. The results reported from the AP on the meeting in Washington, DC was good news for the island. The Georgia boycott was upsetting. She was upbeat about the prospect that the Mountain Brook students would be investigated. She stated that the boycott was having no effect on tourism to Aruba.

Comment: Rita avoided asking Beth Twitty how she felt at being denied access or representation at this meeting in Washington, DC.

Very interesting update. Rep Bachus' talk to the media AFTER his meeting with Aruban authority blows out of the water every theory mentalized by anybody thus far.

If what he says is true then the Arubans actually have suggested strongly that NH is truely missing. There is no pregnancy, no runaway, no "she's back in AL", etc.

If they're pursuing then they have leads. There's a goal their after.

Dear Also_Dutch:

I did not get that impression at all. I got the impression that Congressman Bacchus was relieved that the investigation would continue. I, also, got the impression that US law enforcement was eager to assist in the investigation. We should not discount the absence of anyone from Natalee Holloway's family as insignificant. One of the positives was the revelation that the Mountain Brook students would be investigated. We could read into that that someone may have resisted that effort.

Congressman Bacchus with three state prosecutors
met with three ARUBAN officials-on 12/16/2005, Friday; and it was said "They(Arubans) plan to pursue leads?"i.e. They have not yet planned or pursued the leads yet??? They cannot cook anything if they do not know/ and they do not want to seek/accept help from Alabama DA also?
If they plan to visit MB students who went to ARUBA,with the help of FBI, but not tell the FBI
what is going on in the case?
It seems, they are going round and round and
round on a circle and it can be said,"It is not
a closed case" nor "at the dead End?" till all of
you get tired---- then, all of a sudden, somebody
will find out that MB students were at fault and
Natalee Holloway was not there at all --- or something like that --- they have very professional spin doctors --- You read blogs and
figure it out ... THEY ARE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING
to blame ... then business as usual ... Proof?
Their Prime Minister agreed that mistakes were
made... but who cared to correct them?
