Federal Officials: New York City Nuke Attack 'A Blood-curdling Picture Out Of Dante's Inferno'

Just in case you missed this yesterday, as I did, and especially if you're one of those moonbats that think President Bush hasn't done the right thing by ordering the NSA to keep tabs on suspected terrorists that double as American citizens, you need to read about the investigation by Federal officials into the possible deaths and horrific injuries that would result if a nuclear truck bomb were set off by terrorists in Manhattan. (For an excellent perspective on the NSA surveillance, watch the video of the MSNBC interview of Wallid Phares )

The NY Post has learned that a national medical expert has told them the aftermath of such an attack would be a blood-curdling picture out of Dante's "Inferno" -- and the city is ill-prepared to relieve the horror. Apparently, the medical expert discussed his conclusions at a Nov. 10 closed hearing of a congressional panel, and showed lawmakers data predicting 1.6 million New Yorkers could be killed, maimed, burned or sickened if a 20-kiloton nuke exploded at Broadway and Warren Street downtown.

"We are not prepared for the 100,000 burn victims," Dallas said. "It will be a picture out of Dante's 'Inferno,' with all these people screaming in agony for days, and you won't have enough people there to help them."

A bomb that size, similar to the weapons dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, is considered "relatively small" by today's standards for thermonuclear weapons, and could be detonated from the back of "a small rental truck or even a van," Dallas said.

Dallas also presented models of 6-kiloton, 10-kiloton and 550-kiloton bombs going off at Midtown sites.

Here's what he said would happen in a 20-kiloton explosion...

After you read the entire article, find a moonbat and remind them that, "Revealing classified information is illegal, alerts our enemies, and endangers our country."

Then, if the NY Post article hasn't got your attention yet, read this chilling scenario of an "example" of the effects of a nuclear attack on New York City:

A 150 kiloton bomb constructed by terrorists is detonated in the heart of Manhattan, at the foot of the Empire State Building. The bomb goes off without warning at noon time. It's a clear spring day with a breeze to the east.

Assumptions...

There is no warning. The population has not been evacuated nor sought shelter. Both measures could reduce casualties.

There is clear weather, with visibility of 9 miles (16 km).

This is an isolated attack, leaving the rest of the country free to respond.

A large percentage of the day time population is outside - 25%.

The daytime population density is roughly uniform and about 125,000 per square mile.

The shock wave will spread out uniformly in all directions, being minimally affected by structures.

By all means, do read it all...

Sorry I have not posted sooner. What is of concern is not a 20-KT weapon being detonated on US soil, it is the infamous satchel bomb, the 1-KT weapon. A 1-KT weapon could be placed into a briefcase and destroy a single target ... say the New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street.

In reference, a tactical nuclear device, like those affixed to fighter aircraft wings, are 3-KT weapons. These devices will not destroy an entire city; however, if placed with precision, then they could destroy sensitive targets within a city or military complex.

The frightening aspect of 1-KT weapons is that if they are properly shielded, they could become near undetectable. Prior to 911, these 1-KT weapons, properly shielded, could have passed through all our active surveillance equipment and have been detonated anywhere in America ... even the White House.

With Aloha,

Harry

To put matters in perspective, the amount of energy released in the 911 atttack was roughly a kiloton.
