Where is the Outrage?
Topics: Persecution, Understanding IslamThe Washington-DC based human rights group, International Christian Concern (ICC) has been informed that Indonesian authorities are reporting they have identified the culprits in the heinous beheading of three Christian high school girls.
While this is welcome news, ICC remains skeptical. The reason is the beheading are only the latest of 40 some recent violent attacks against the Christian community in central Sulawesi (CS). It is common knowledge that these attacks are coming from radical Islamists. While it is not politically correct to mention this, it is hard to miss in the latest incident when one of the girl's heads was left at door of the local Church.
These attacks have included assassinations, (including pastors in and out of the pulpit) and even large coordinated bombings (Tentenna, leaving 22 dead). All the incidents have passed without any convictions, or arrests.
During the height of the atrocities (1998 to 2002) when 10,000 Christians were murdered in Indonesia, it was discovered that Islamic militants had access to military weapons. Connect that with the string of 40 some violent attacks against CS Christians over the last two years and one stars to wonder if there is incompetence, acquiescence, compliance, or active support from the local CS authorities in these attacks.
Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyonohas condemned the latest killings, like he has with so many others and promised that the perpetrators will be caught. We think the time for talk is over.
We think it is time for outrage and shame on his part as well as the rest of the civilized world. The relative silence of the West in the face of these attacks is shameful. What would the level of outrage be if it was suspected Christians had beheaded 3 Muslim high school girls?
Regardless of whether the CS authorities have real suspects or not, ICC demands that the Indonesian President immediately replace the local police and military authorities in CS and start an investigation into their inaction.
