UN criticizes Turkey on human rights
Topics: International News
Turkey's record on human rights abuses has come under criticism in the U.N. Few people seem to be aware that before Nazi Germany's holocaust by Hitler, there was another smaller holocaust in Turkey. This is the 1915 Armenian genocide.
The UN reported that there have been more than 300 complaints against Turkey for its practice of torture and its denial of human rights to minorities. A good example of Turkey's current attitude is the trial of a novelist who dared to mention the Armenian genocide. The Turks continue to refuse that such a thing happened.
It must be noted that there have been some reforms in Turkey, but it is obvious that the reforms do not go far enough.
