The Paris Intifada continues
Topics: TerrorismWhen I first read about the cause of this riot I was immediately reminded of the riots of Redfern in Sydney. There are similarities because the Aboriginal community seem to have a similar fear of the police and the event that sparked the Redfern riots was the accidental death of a boy who thought that he was being chased by the police, and as he sped away on his bike he ended up being impaled on a fence. The police were not chasing him but were first onto the scene and there was nothing that they could do to save the boy.
However, that is where the similarity between Paris and Sydney begins and ends. The more news items I read about the French Intifada the more I realise that this is not even about discrimination (a legitimate reason for the built up feelings here in Sydney). There is an undisclosed and deep seated reason for the French Intifada. Is it coincidental that the rioters happen to be mostly African and Arabs?
There are a number of differences that have distinguished the two situations. I guess what I am saying is that I have more sympathy for the plight of the Aborigines who have difficulty finding work, and who are constantly pursued by police, than I do for Arab immigrants in France. I am also saying that the underlying motives of the French Intifada are the driving force of some of the most disgusting things that have come to light:
1. youths set a disabled woman alight. She was assisted by the bus driver and she suffered burns to 30 per cent of her body. (at least the Aborigines never went that far).
2. Several police were wounded after they were ambushed at a housing estate in Grigny. Two of the injured police officers received wounds to the neck and legs. Who supplied the guns to these allegedly out of work youth?
3. A child was injured as a result of rock throwing incidents. The child is in a serious condition in hospital. What did this innocent child do that it ended up being injured in such an horrendous way?
4. The riots have spread throughout the whole of France. Churches have become the target, as well as cars, general infrastructure, buses etc. Hmm.. now why would a church be attacked? Would it have something to do with the religion of the majority that they would seek out and severely damage a church? Well I say make them pay for this damage to Church property.
5. The moderate Muslims from the Grand Mosque in Paris have issued a fatwah in an effort to stop the riots. However, the youth do not seem to be listening to such a source. I guess the members of the Grand Mosque are not members of the Muslim Brotherhood.
If there was any organization likely to be behind the riots, then I suspect that the Muslim Brotherhood have been acting as key players and behind the scenes co-ordinators. There are just too many things that do not add up to this situation being spontaneous. The boys who died were thieves. The riots are not justified at all. We cannot have a situation in the civilized world where there is one rule for Muslim youth and another for the rest of society. They are the ones who must learn to obey our rules.
Even at the risk of being condemned by the international community, the French Government needs to send a message to the immigrant population that they must remain law abiding citizens or they can return to their own countries. This is not about treating anyone as second class citizens, but it is about the need to issue the rioters with a blunt warning. Stop now, or be rounded up and sent back to wherever....
