The outcome of this research should be no surprise since any unbalanced diet affects our health. However, the diet industry has been in the habit of advocating a number of diet regimes that are low carbohydrate and high protein. This of course excludes the advocation of the GI because that regime makes you look at the glycemic index in order to choose the appropriate mix of carbohydrate and protein in the diet.
Scientists have now found high fat, low carbohydrate diets can reduce energy to the heart. The Oxford University team says that it is unclear at this stage whether this could have a damaging impact on overall health - but say more research is needed.
Many people have lost weight quickly by following such diets - but scientists fear they may not be good for health in the longer term.
