Ted Kennedy Gets 'Smacked Down' By Tim Russert

Topics: Political News and commentaries

From Say Anything comes a post on the beginings of a long overdue recognition on the part of the MSM that the Democrats are just a wee bit hypocritical, and will "say anything" regardless of it's remoteness to the truth. And of course when it comes to historical revisionism, the Dems are indeed - superstars!

Ted Kennedy is the latest in what has become a line of Democrats to get a smack-down on their historical revisionism.

Here's the transcript:

[RUSSERT, reading quote:] We know [Iraq is] developing unmanned vehicles, capable of delivering chemical and biological warfare agents ... all U.S. intelligence experts agree that they are seeking nuclear weapons. There is little question that Saddam Hussein wants to develop them. ...In the wake of September 11th, who among us can say with any certainty, to anybody, that those weapons might not be used against our troops or against allies in the region? Who can say that this master of miscalculation will not develop a weapon of mass destruction even greater -- a nuclear weapon. ...

RUSSERT: Are those the statements you're concerned about?

Kennedy: Well, I am concerned about it, and that's why I believe that the actions that were taken by Harry Ried in the Senate last week, when effectively he said that we are going to get to the bottom of this investigation....

We've got to get to the bottom of it. And that is what the Democrats stood for on the floor of the United States Senate last week. That was a bold stroke, one that has the overwhelming support of the American people. It is about time that they got the facts on it, they haven't got them to date, they deserve them and they'll get them.

RUSSERT: But Senator, what the Democrats stood for on the floor of the Senate in 2002, let me show you who said what I just read: John Kerry, your candidate for president. He was talking about a nuclear threat from Saddam Hussein. Hillary Clinton voted for the war. John Edwards, Joe Lieberman, John Kerry. Democrats said the same things about Saddam Hussein. You yourself said quote "Saddam is dangerous, he's got dangerous weapons." It wasn't just the Bush White House.

Youch.

I think Teddy needs to go stand in the corner with Senators Levin, Rockefeller and Rep. Hinchey.Perhaps the Dems and the MSM could learn a trick or two from bloggers, one not so complicated that even they could use it - Google!

And, there's more. Glenn Reynolds points to Bryan Preston's noting "that all it takes is Google --" which apparently the Democrats and quite a few journalists either can't use or wish we didn't know about -- to explode most of the claims about prewar intelligence."

But there's more (also from Glenn Reynolds): Tom Maguire (using Google!) finds a speech (and an interview) by Senator Jay Rockefeller that Rockefeller probably would rather you didn't know about...

And again from Glenn Reynolds, we learn that the GOP has rolled out this new TV ad that features Democrats talking about the danger of Saddam Hussein as long ago as 1998.

But the day just wouldn't be complete without recalling Harry Reid's own brand of historical revisionism, when he completely rewrites President Bush's speech for him:

Democrats are clearly enthralled with the possibility of taking down Karl Rove. While it is not even clear that any crime was committed, they are circling like vultures. Look at Harry Reid's rewriting of President Bush's statement...
Let's just call the juxtaposition of conservative bloggers and Google - a virtual truth squad! That's a dangerous combination for the Dems and the MSM to have to contend with.

Lastly, for now, Michelle Malkin says "Did Bush Lie? (Just) Google It (and find out for yourself)!"

I’m frankly surprised no one in the media has acknowledged the fact that no one on this earth was more surprised to find out that there were no WMDs than Saddam himself. And he didn’t know for a very good reason. He had a bad habit of killing the messenger.

In all fairness, if the Democrats want to continue beating the drum of motivations, perhaps it’s time we revisit Chappaquidick.
