Palestinian boy's organs donated to Isralis

Topics: Human Interest

The young Palestinian boy was shot by jumpy Israeli soldiers during a raid in Jenin. He was carrying a toy rifle and the soldiers obviously thought that what he carried was the real thing.

However, I have nothing but admiration for the boy's father. His son was dying and he made the decision to allow his son's organs to be donated to help others. As a result of that decision this child's organs were given to several Israelis, a Palestinian, as well as a Druse child.

The father was motivated to donate his son's organs because he knew the pain of having his own brother die at a young age as he waited for an organ donation.

This man made the decision so that the memory of his son will live on and it did not matter to him whether those who received the organs were Israelis, or other foreign nationals.

A very important part of this story is that Khatib wants to send a message of peace to the Israelis. Khatib's action has helped to save the life of a 12 year old Druse girl who had been on the waiting list for a heart transplant. At the same time the Israeli government has done its best to apologise to Khatib over the death of his son, and he has been invited to go to Jerusalem.

In this story there is a message of overwhelming love and forgiveness. It is a heartwarming story and I think that this man should be commended for his decision to donate the organs of his dying son so that others are given the chance to live, even if they are Israelis.

This is truly inspiring; particularly in light of the stories that preceed it on the page, those events that have left a wake of such horror and grief. That this man can show that he is not consumed by hate and revenge, and can take the sad events of his life and turn them into a motive for kind actions is a lesson to us all, don't you think?
It is something for all of us to consider in our thoughts and actions; if more people thought and acted as this man, it would certainly be a better world, wouldn't it?
