Operation Steel Curtain Surprises Terrorists

Topics: Iraq

Operation Steel Curtain is well underway, and it's day three in the operation by Multinational Forces aimed at closing down the border crossing to Syria and destroying al Qaeda in the town of Husaybah.

As we've learned to expect, al-Qaeda and the insurgents are using schools, mosques and private residences as fighting positions and ammunition dumps, and as usual, are targeting civilians. The Army Times reports Marine commanders believe the insurgents in Husaybah may have been caught off guard, as the attack came from the west of the city, as opposed to the east from Sadah where Coalition forces established bases after Operation Iron Fist. Bill Roggio at The Fourth Rail has more on the story.

In other news from Iraq, the "manly" terrorists have adapted a new strategy, dressing up as women.

Ah, Operation: 'Pinprick' is under way, to be followed up by Operation: 'Mouse fart'. Does anybody NOT realize these are just piddling "propaganda" operations, designed to [try to] falsely reaassure the American public, such as it is, that the candy-ass "military" is actually doing something against the Rebels? Come on, 3,000 troops does not an offensive make. Supposedly the turd in charge of this latest little farce has said they've "learned" from past mistakes regarding clearing a town and not keeping an occupation force in it which allows the Rebels to move right back in as soon as they leave. Now [he claims] they are going to leave a force there to occupy apparantly Husaybah and possibly Qaim, but says it will be "Iraqi" puppet troops (because the U.S. lacks the requisite numbers of troops to garrison the town(s) themselves. Bear in mind, just last month we were told the number of "Iraqi" battalions trained up and ready to operate independently is a staggering ONE battalion (a battalion is around 800 men, or three or four companies plus supporting personnel). ONE BATTALION after two and a half YEARS. He didn't say U.S. troops would be helping them garrison it, but that "Iraqi" sellouts would be the ones attempting to hold it. Sorry, but one battalion is not enough to garrison these two towns at the far side of Anbar province or anywhere else for that matter. And we KNOW the U.S. "military" is not going to have the guts to put its own troops in such an exposed position as it would be if it tried to garrison those two towns, and besides, as I mentioned it lacks the manpower anyway. So it is pretty apparant nobody is going to hold these towns, but that this is yet another useless "sweep & clear" operation designed to make it appear they're doing something constructive instead of simply all hiding behind their sandbags. Purely a media stunt just like all the other pinprick "operations". Also notice how they don't have the guts or manpower to even attempt to clear Ramadi or Haditha?? They are not even challenging those Rebel strongholds. Yeah, some "world's only superpower".
