Kelsey Smith Briggs - Dead of child abuse at age 2
Topics: Human InterestThis beautiful happy little girl was stolen from her family, by the hands of her stepfather. Allegations of abuse while her father was away serving our county in Iraq went unheard. After being removed from the home she shared with her mother and step father- amid the numerous allegations, she was returned to the very people responsible now for her death. It wasn't just a tragic death, it was a preventable horrifying act. A brave soldier fighting for his country returned home to this. That is no welcome for any of our heros.A little girl was murdered by her stepfather, with nine months of documented abuse., while her dad was in Iraq.
The little girl was described as having significant bleeding in her intestines and bruising on her ribs, the front of her chest, side and back. Records indicate that she had bruises in other areas of her body and medical examiners believe she suffered from possible kneeing, punching or squeezing.
Kelsey Smith Briggs was 2 years old, and she died hours before her father returned from serving in Iraq.
Please read this tragic and heartbreaking story, and offer your support and prayers for her and her dad.

This case is beyond tragic.
In so many cases like this funeral expenses can really burden the family. Does anyone know if there is a site up where they are accepting donations (that would go to the father)? Helping this father with these expenses is the least we can do for him after all he has done for us.

Max,
That's a good point. I'm sure that Laura at "Lost In Lima" (link in post) can address that. If I have time today I'll email her.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! no donations for the funeral. The Briggs put a stop to that. They said it was unexceptable and it would not be tolerated. Thanks again for asking even though you were asking for the people who did NOT even handle her funeral. It was the hardest thing our family(including the Briggs) have ever had to go through. They never even asked to help with the finances of the funeral, but that is okay it is no different than it has been before. You may have your own opinion and that is okay, everyone does, but there is A LOT more to this story than you know and will probably care to ever know. One other thing you might check into is Mr. Briggs active duty records. Was he really in Iraq? Hummm...BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE MY WORD FOR IT. Raye Dawn misses, talks to her,& looks at her pictures everyday and if you have NEVER lived through such a horrible tragedy you shouldn't judge. You never know when something horrible could happen to you that you didn't see coming, even if it is in your own home. It's okay we've come to realize people are VERY closed minded. The last thing Kelsey told her mother before they went to sleep the day she died was, "Mommy I lub (love) you so much and Raye Dawn told her, "I love you too, Kels" and Raye Dawn will continue to cherish that everyday. They always told each other that everyday and Raye Dawn is so glad they did. Kelsey was Raye Dawn's best friend and she loved her mommy and Kelsey knows she loves her and so no one elses OPINION even matters.
