Five arrested for trying to remove display on Veterans Day eve - And today we celebrate 'What"? (Updated)

From the Boston Globe we learn that police arrested five people on Veterans Day eve in a dispute over how over a display created by peace activists at Veterans Memorial Park cemetery. The display remained intact Friday despite threats to remove it.

However, I can't help but wonder just what is there to dispute? This is the day that we "honor" the men and women who serve and have served our country, and honor the sacrifices of those that have laid down their lives so that we, our people, our nation, our civilization, can live on for generations to come.

Mourning the death of our service men and women is appropriate, but when your country has been attacked, when the enemy has targeted every American regardless of race, gender or age for death, there can be no "peace" movement. There can only be a movement that divides Americans and gives aid and comfort to our enemies.

The so-called "peace movement" today is led by the same radicals who supported America's totalitarian enemies during the Cold War. They marched in support of the Vietcong, the Sandinista Marxists and the Communist guerrillas in El Salvador. Before that they marched in behalf of Stalin and Mao. They still support ("critically" of course) Castro and the nuclear lunatic in North Korea, Kim Jong-Il. Whatever their reservations about the cruel regime of Saddam Hussein, they are willing to stand between him and the justice he so richly deserve.

What prompts American radicals to make common cause with such monsters? The answer is obvious: They share a common view of America as the "Great Satan." They believe that "in the last analysis" it is America - not tyrants like Saddam Hussein - who inflicts misery and suffering on the world's oppressed. The targets of the 9/11 terrorists were Wall Street and the Pentagon. The enemy of Saddam is(was) the regime in Washington. These were the targets of American radicals long before the second Gulf War began.

So perhaps we should restate our point here. This is the day that we "honor" the men and women who serve and have served our country.

This is not the day that we celebrate honoring and providing aid and comfort to the enemy that would replace our freedoms, including the freedom of dissent, with sharia law.

Whatever happened to respect, duty, honor, and service to one's country, most especially, in a time of war?

Sure, thanks to the sacrifices of the men and women of the armed forces - such peaceniks, whackos, nutcases, and other fruits of decades-long lack of parenting skills, lack of accountability and responsibility, and utter disregard for the creator of us all, do have the right to act and speak out against our country and it's policies, even to the point to which they are at now, where they do service to our enemy, while our servicemen die at the hands of the that enemy that would do away with such rights.

Dissent is good for our nation, and the freedom to dissent is one of our the very special freedoms that makes our country so great. But when at war, a nation and it's leaders need the support and cooperation of all of it's citizens, speaking as one voice. We should argue our differences, after, we have defeated the enemy. To do otherwise, provides comfort and leverage to those that would destroy our freedoms, our culture, our society, indeed our entire civilization.

Islamofascism threatens all of us, and those that would have our nation passively ignore such a threat, and not act to aggressively defeat it, are shamefully ignorant of the repercussions of such passivism. We cannot acquiesce to terrorism. We cannot ignore it. We cannot escape from it, unless we deal with it, now, together.

God bless America, her armed forces, her people, and her freedoms.

Let's all remember, that this war is for real.

Update: We received a trackback on this post from "Scoopstories" a blog belonging to one of our friends on the left. Although we posted a reply to his comments about our post, we believe it to be appropriate to give it more attention here. The author is apparently against the war, and criticized us for being critical of those that seek to undermine our nation's efforts to defeat Islamofascism in the only way that can yield a successful outcome - fighting it worldwide, and of course in Iraq instead of in "Scoopstories" neighborhood, and ours.

And let us remember, after all, this is America, and he does have that right, for now. However, if we fail in this war that he appears to be in opposition to, none of us will have that right.

Here are our comments that have been posted on Scoopstories.

Gee, we appreciate you linking to our post, and we are certainly always willing to accept criticism. But from one set of bloggers to another, you seem to be a bit selective over what you choose to use for bolstering your agenda. We see from your post:

"It was hard, though, to hold my tongue at this blog about a stupid fight over whether it's ok to have a peace display." and your response - Whatever happened to respecting the diversity of opinions and the right to free expression? If dissent should be silenced during war, how democratic is that?"

Well, you managed to leave out, what we said about dissent:

Dissent is good for our nation, and the freedom of dissent is one of our very special freedoms that make our country so great.

Like it or not, we are at war. If you don't understand that, or know the difference between dissent, and aiding the enemy by supplying them propaganda, propaganda that ends up costing the lives of our men and women in combat, men like my son, now in Iraq for the fourth time - having volunteered, then all the commentary in the world just isn't going to help you understand.

As you correctly stated, what kind of democracy would this be if you didn't have the right to say what you wish. However, it's okay to disagree, but a little common sense ought to go along with it. We need to think hard about how those guys that direct explosive-laden nitwits to kill and maim folks like you and I that disagree with them, use our words and actions to recruit and motivate others to do the same.

After all, I am a Recon Marine, albeit an older one now, but I've left many friends on the battlefields of Vietnam - as has many others, and as my son and many others have in Iraq, so that you and your kind have that right, and for now, aren't obligated to attend a mosque!

God bless America, and God bless our armed forces.

Semper Fi (yesterday was my Marine Corps birthday)

Oh, and by the way, we appreciate "Scoopstories" reading Hyscience. Perhaps with a little more reading, and a little coaxing, he might learn a little more and join the fight against terrorism - you know, be better - "scooped." (Said in good fun, of course!)

And one last thing - "Scoopstories" was absolutely right when he said the story we wrote of here was, "a stupid fight over whether it's ok to have a peace display."

However, inasmuch as he's studying to be a teacher, we hope that next time he is better able to understand that we only used the story as a tool for getting across our message. That should have been easily discerned by the weight given to the story in our discussion. The number of words written in our message verses those written of the story, has got to be 100 to 1, or greater. I'll reserve further comment on this particular matter, giving our friend on the left the benefit of the doubt.

Although many liberal-minded people believe that 24/7 dissent originates from a right derived from our constitution, we might want to reacquaint ourselves with the reason that we have holidays in general. A holiday, today, generally refers to a time of celebration with little sanctuary from the rights under our constitution. We have forgotten much.

Holidays were times negotiated over centuries, enabling citizens to escape, momentarily, the ravages of warfare. That is right! Holidays were not respites form arduous work, as many have been led to believe. Holidays spared residents in the areas where they were observed from the ravages of war. Every major holiday that we celebrate today achieved its current status by ceasing the sustained carnage of the countryside.

With given the choice of sanctuary from harm or being en pris to the sword, townspeople celebrated their good fortune, even if for just a day. There exists only two days in the calendar year that remind us of this legacy: Memorial Day and Veterans Day. These two days remind us of the sacrifices of our military men and women. There exists 363 days of the year for open discussion under our constitution; however, on these two days we owe our fallen brothers and sisters our deepest reverence. We do not dissent with them, because they provided the ultimate sacrifice so that we could continue dissenting on every other day of the year. Without their sacrifices, we would soon revert to the carnage of the Middle Ages. In the Middle ages, there existed no such concept as peace. There was war, and a few breaks in the action called holidays.

As for the issue of Fundamentalist Islam, Americans will soon realize what many political philosophers around the world have been harbingering: We of the West cannot coexists with Fundamentalist Islam. If you choose to dissent that reality, then I encourage you to meet these Fundamentalist Islamics up close and personal. You will quickly appreciate the futility of engaging them intellectually. I encourage you to do so, because we need to get their extermination underway. We are beyond diplomacy. All your dissent will accomplish is extending the time Fundamentalist Islam remains active on this earth. The House of Islam, created during the Early Middle Ages, maintains a status of open warfare against the House of War (that is us). There are no holidays in this war, and for the Fundamentalist Islamics there exists no forum for dissent. Like I said: Diplomacy is over. Actually, diplomacy ceased in the 7th Century. Fundamentalist Islam remains immersed in the Middle Ages. If you desire to dissent, enjoy your trip back to the Middle Ages. And, don't forget to bring your sword; you will need it.

There was a time when holidays meant something. On those days, the last thing someone engaged in was dissent. Unless you are willing to shed your blood 24/7, I would suggest you give reverence to those who did for you. It is not much to ask. After all, the earth is large, there are enough six-foot-depth plots within it for all of us.
