Failed bomber confesses on TV

The woman who was the fourth bomber in the hotel attacks in Amman has been arrested and has confessed her role on TV in the deaths of 57 people. She is Sajida al-Rishawi, the sister of Mubarak Atrous al-Rishawi, a leader of al-Qaida in Iraq in Anbar province who is believed to have been killed by the Americans last year.

Al-Rishawi explained how she entered the hotel with the belt of explosives strapped to her body. It seems that those long flowing garments that the radicals want women to wear conceal more than a shapeless body. They are ideal for hiding something that is very dangerous. I have just viewed the video of this woman stating how there was a wedding party with women and children present. She showed no sign of emotion and showed no remorse for the fact that what she planned was going to lead to the death of innocent men, women and children. She sounded cold, incapable of feeling compassion for other human beings, and incapable of reason - brainwashed, might be an appropriate description.

Once again we need to keep in mind that the people behind the attack were not Jordanian. They were members of Al-Qaeda and they have no borders. They have been identified as Iraqi, yet it is signficant that they have established connections to Al Qaeda that go beyond any response to the operations in Iraq, connections that are long-standing and long evolving.

Politics aside (which appears an impossibility - whatever happened to Country before self?), Al-Qaeda being in Iraq and all throughout the Middle East, isn't new, pre-dates the fall of Sadaam, and was existant long before Americans first set foot in Iraq.
