Curfew declared in Lyons

Topics: Terrorism

As we move through day 17 of the French Intifada, there has been continuing rioting in some French cities, including Lyons and Toulouse.

What I would like to know is how these rioters can justify their attempts to burn down an old age home. Then there is a second attempt on a nursery school.

This is about more than perceived discrimination at work. There is an under current, an element of stirrers who have stirred up a population that has been growling out of control because the French citizens have not been treating them equally. Yet, they do not make a true attempt to break those barriers of discrimination when they insist upon setting themselves apart.

The French riots seemed to have been a catalyst to start riots in other European cities, and there have been some riots but nothing like what we have seen in and around Paris.

The point that needs to be driven home is that even if there is a lack of employment that is not an excuse for behaving like criminals by stealing cars and breaking into houses and shops. It is also no excuse for behaving badly towards the police, and then pretending to be frightened of the police in return. Give respect and you receive respect, but if you behave in a criminal manner then you should expect to be treated like a criminal.
