Pro-Life Laws Must be the Primary Political Goal for Catholics says Catholic LeadersTopics: Faith
The Catholic Leadership Conference, an annual gathering of the leaders of over 100 Catholic organizations representing in their memberships over 2 million Americans, has released a statement on political action. Quoting the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, Pope John Paul II, and Cardinal Ratzinger - now the current Pope, the Catholic leaders assert that "The ultimate political goal for Catholics must be the achievement of public policies and laws that result in the legal protection of all innocent human life and that promote the dignity of each human person without exception and compromise."
There's a certain ring to the words, "Achieving public policies and laws that result in the legal protection of all innocent human life and that promote the dignity of each human person without exception and compromise," that I find appealing.
They call to mind a CDF Doctrinal Note in 2003(actually I didn't have it memorized, but had to Google it), when, then Cardinal Ratzinger, spelled out formally that Catholic politicians have a "grave and clear obligation to oppose any law that attacks human life," and that "For (Catholic politicians), as for every Catholic, it is impossible to promote such laws or to vote for them." And that, in turn, reminds me of Kerry's abortion doubletalk. Which in turn, calls to mind all those other politicians with Blood On Their Hands. etc..., etc..., etc...
And protecting human life applies to abortion (also here), euthanasia, and the death penalty(personally, it is this particular life issue that I've struggled with most - but our liberal friends on the Left are "right" about this - it is as much a life issue as abortion is).
